In the hard times, when I was overwhelmed with sadness and hurt, it felt like I had a great big hole inside myself as I witnessed all this destruction of nature, when the trees were falling all around me as they were being ripped out from the flesh of the earth. My anger felt like it was eating me alive. It can feel as though we want to become like a wild animal and strike out at everything that’s hurting us and hurting this earth. But one day, in Luna, I began to feel this immense amount of love beginning to fill me up. And I paused and thought, where is all this love coming from? It was then that I realized that what I was feeling was the unconditional love from the earth. Every day, as a society, as a strand in this web, humans do more to destroy the other strands than anything else. We annihilate the earth’s ability to give us life. And yet, the earth continues to do everything in its power to give us life. And that is true unconditional love. It is unconditional love in its purest form. And this is the love that can fill up this great big hole we have inside of ourselves, as it filled up inside me.
Interview with Mark Sommer, KHSU program Alternative Review, recorded while in Luna, September 22, 1998
It seems almost impossible to stop Nature piracy by human beens. Everywhere on the planet. But after a 3 year fight our Municpality, Catanzaro in Southern Italy, accepted the idea to estabilish a new small protected area on the last dune system of this territory. Compared to the Nature general destruction this is honestly a drop in the ocean, but it help us to hope.
Every little thing makes a difference. i am so very happy to hear that at least that part was protected. Grazie Mille to all who were involved in saving it.
Con amore,
julia
Hi Julia! I am an 8th grader doing a science project on you where I act as if I were you and talk to people as if I was you. And I was just wondering if there is anything I should know about your early life, and what was it like during those two years? How long did you know Luna? Why do you call her your best teacher? Have you always been attached to trees? When you were a kid did you want to be an environmentalist? Is there anything you want the people to know? Is there a message you were trying to convey during those 2 years sitting on the tree? Lastly, what would you say to the people and kids who want to do something like you did but don’t know where to start? Sorry if this is to much!
Sincerely Haley P
Hello Haley.
i appreciate so much your care and commitment to making a difference!
Unfortunately, as i am not on salary anywhere, i don’t get paid for my time, so it is impossible financially for me to spend time answering everyone’s questions for free.
However, i did want to thank you personally, which is why i am replying.
This link is to something i wrote a long time ago that hopefully might help answer some of your questions. https://www.circleoflife.org/for-kids.html

Beautiful, and I so needed to hear this today. Drove by a wooded lot last week that today was ripped down to build a storage center. It’s like someone punched me in the heart. So much anger.
i know that feeling so deeply as well Barbara.
May the love you have for that area inspire and motivate you in all you do.
Love,
julia

Julia!!!!
We met at Gesundheit Institute. I am mask maker Jeff Semmerling. The Smile Factory guy. I think of you often. You are a powerful presence. I am now a Covid refugee.40 years of art work and the tools I use to make it have become a burden to me. I don’t have a place to take it all or be. I can’t sell masks or teach or create gathering events. What I get in unemployment is not enough to take care of me and my art studio.
My heart goes out to you Jeff. i too have been impacted by Covid and am living out of a small van. May a path emerge for you that makes things better.
Love,
julia
Ein wunderbarer Mensch. Gäbe es doch mehr davon, hätte ich keine Angst um diese Welt
Danke Rolf.
The trees are coming to peace with our disrespect of them, though that disrespect is still unconscionable. The thought of you brought tears to my eyes just 5 mins ago, an actual angel I believe you are. Gaia and the trees love you. Peace, love and respect to you and those that love you.
Cameron
Thank you Cameron.
