“Coming to California, when I entered the redwood forest for the first time, I was so deeply moved, just in awe, I fell to my knees and began to cry. I have been a lover of nature all my life. Nature has always spoken to a very deep place within me. And yet, this was unlike anything else I had ever experienced. I grew up with a traveling preacher for a father, so I had spent a lot of time in churches. And yet, I never really felt like church was a place where my spirit was spoken to. When I was in the redwoods that day, I thought, oh, this is what God is about, this is what my spirit has longed for my whole life, this is what sacred is.”
