“We are destroying everything of real value in our pursuit of perceived value. We are valued not for our purpose but for our production. In a production driven society, we as individuals are seen as units of production; we’re valued only by how much we are buying, how much we are consuming. We are far more often referred to as taxpayers and consumers; we’re hardly ever referred to as citizen or community member… Up in Luna, I was able to see for miles. For as far as my eyes could see, endless emerald green forests in all directions. From this vantage point, I could see everything that’s beautiful. At the same time, I could see everything that’s being clear-cut and destroyed. It was then that I realized we are destroying everything we need in pursuit of greed. It was then that I realized we don’t need to destroy. And I realized we’re destroying because of how we are taught to be valued as units of production rather than as beings of purpose.”
