Some people have called me a tree-hugger, a nature lover. But I think people have forgotten just how much nature feeds us. For too long, enough of us in the city haven’t tried hugging a tree lately. I encourage people in the city, if they have to, to go and hug a building – because that concrete is the earth. That chair you are sitting on is the earth. The walls in this room, the glass in the windows, the lights above us, even the curtains and everything we’re wearing is the earth. And so if we are the earth, we can go up and hug a building and still feel the earth in there.

Dear Julia, I help manage the Shelter Cove Library in Southern Humboldt. As part of a scholarship opportunity children were asked to read a book on nature snd write the “after story”. Kalliope Parker chose to read a book about you. She would like to share it with you. I have her story in PDF format. How can I get it to you? -Cynthia
