“What was it like living in Luna?… A lot of people think I lived in the tree in the perfect fairy tale, sitting in the lotus position — like I was calling in the massive consciousness. I got it! – but I didn’t get it through meditation, even though that would have been great. Rather, it was just like life only at its most extreme. My home was a four-by-six with plastic walls; I gathered water from the sky, 18 stories up, in an ancient elder. It’s like living in life, just extreme. The joys were really joyful, and the fear was really fearful, and the rage was really rage-filled. I was living in an active logging plan; I had people try to kill me. I climbed up during the worst winter in recorded history. It was intense! But, the intensity and the simplicity completely transformed my life. And, at the core, I’m still the same person, but I’m such a different person…. There were days when it was so foggy I could not see my hand in front of me. That whole experience makes you get really, really clear and focused on what’s really important and what really matters – because there’s no room for anything else. That tree became the best teacher and the best friend I ever had.”

I love you all the way to the moon that shines upon Luna. Never forget how very loved you are..
Dear Julia,
Thought of you once again this morning and reached for my computer to see what you were up to.
I totally understand how you had to walk away from being “the” Julia B. Hill, tree inhabitant extraordinaire. Too many people want to follow, not find their own way.
I have had the fortune to also be a Forest Canopy Camper many times and rejoiced to see your experience.
I wish you well in your endeavours. Onwards and upwards!
Sincerely,
Paul Winstanley
Lucky you and lucky me.
Hi — hope you’re well. Remember me and my son, Patrick Sheehy from Manhattan Beach? I first met you at the 2000 telluride film festival in Colorado. I have your book and video. My young son made a donation to your organization a few years later and you sent me an email when you found his letter while cleaning. Do you still live in Belize?
I am still amazed at your courage to do all the things you’ve accomplished — you are still such an inspiration! Occasionally, I remind my grown children about your sacrifices and how you stood up and fought the Powerful Pacific logging company.
Best Wishes,
Nancy Sheehy
